I’ve been cleaning out all the stuff from my old desk and transferring it to my new desk. There was so much forgotten stuff in there. Why am I having so much trouble letting go of things like my study cards from the Ornithology class that I took more than 10 years ago? Do I really need to know what the Order Charadriiformes is? No, I don’t! Well, maybe I do. At least there’s a part of me that says I need to know. For example, it bothers me that when I’m trying to explain something to my kids, and I just cannot remember the details. I just know that perhaps so-and-so is approximately kind of something like this. My explanations come out sounding like that. Ugh. And how about those times when I just might find myself in a conversation about all the tail shapes and foot types that birds have? I’d be left with nothing to say, now wouldn’t I?
I know that’s so silly.
I’m going to put a rubber band around this stack of cards and stuff it in the back of my filing cabinet now. Score: Team Old Junk, 1; Team Clean, 0.
I am the exact same way! Seriously, when am I ever going to need this stuff again? However, it has made every move with us.
Instead of putting the cards back in your drawer, you should go over that info and put it up on Wikipedia if not already there. Convert the physical to virtual and not only have you reclaimed physical space but you have the info online for not only your kids but the world to see.
I Jeannie… just popped in from Australia to check out your gorgeous blog. OMG your children are divinely beautiul, but you already knew that! Just loving your photographs. They’re so bright and fresh! I was a fanatic bird enthusiast in a former life (BC… before children) I actually used to buy a monthly parrot magazine from USA. So I’d be very interested in anything you had to say about tail shapes and foot types!!!! HA!
Oops. I HATE typo’s.
HI Jeannie. There. Now I can sleep tonight.
The pic is just too cute! I understand completely.

that is a gorgeous photo!! oh, and I feel your pain on saving stuff. you really might need those cards one day, and how impressed will everyone be when you know just where they are?!
