Do you ever go to a store and spend more time admiring the way the store is decorated or the way an object is displayed than actually shopping? Have you ever gotten a gift and relished the packaging just as much as the gift? I admit that I do! I recently ordered a gift card from Anthropologie, and when I received it, I just about died from delight. From the moment I held the shipping envelope, which was made of rich, textured, padded kraft paper, I knew there was something special inside. Opening and looking at the gift card was itself an interactive adventure! The gift card was not just one of those plastic things that you get just about anywhere. It was actually a small notebooklet, with a gray canvas cover and a yellow string that held it all together. When I opened it, I found thick paper with a note about the gift, and the recipient could write down all her favorites while shopping. Can you imagine the fit of delights that the recipient of this gift card will receive??

Needless to say, I love beautiful packaging. The way a gift or a purchase is packaged conveys so much more meaning than the mere exchange of goods. To me, it represents the thoughtfulness, warmth, and sentiment that went into the exchange. My own packaging is no exception. When I package my orders, each knot of the bow and each careful layer of paper, tags, or stickers represents how much I value my client. I think of it as not just “delivering pictures,” but delivering happiness!

Thank you to all of you who came out to visit my Halloween Charity Photo Booth. The costumes were scary, and the kids were cute! Together, we raised money for Tri-Valley Haven, a local domestic violence shelter for children and families. You make such a difference!

I was wracking my brain for an image to include with this message. I thought, and thought, and I came up with this: an image of a little gourd that my 5 year old son brought home from the pumpkin patch. (By the way, I don’t take any responsibility for the shape of this gourd! My son picked it, and he loves it!)

My son came to me one day last week and said that his gourd had gotten scraped up, so he asked his big sister to fix it. So, big sister patched it up with Band-Aids. My son showed it to me, and he was so happy that it was all better. I melted on the inside. How sweet and innocent kids are, and how simple things make them so happy! Sigh…!

So, I thought this was the perfect Thanksgiving image. I’m so fortunate, for so many reasons–many of them very simple, like this gourd. I’m thankful for all of them!

A Little Eye Candy

I have to squee just a bit. I’m a sucker for pretty paper and printing. You wouldn’t believe how much I drool when I look at other people’s pretty stationery. I have a ton of RSS feeds in my blog reader dedicated just to showcasing the business cards and designs that amazing designers create.

So, much to my delight, my own set of new business cards came in. Please just indulge me for a minute while I share my excitement.

Here are my lovelies. They are neither glossy nor matte, but something in between. They are called silk cards, because the paper has a coating that is silky smooth and velvety.

Here’s the front.

I designed them to be minimalistic and modern—with a surprise.

When you look at the business card at the right angle in the light, you’ll find a spot UV coating that shows my name and logo embellishment. The cards are thick and substantial. The back is printed in my signature turquoise blue color.

I love how understated they are. My business cards have been through several revisions. Pretty much all of them have been a little “meh” design-wise. But these… ah… This is the first time I’ve been truly excited about my own business cards!

Here’s a peek at what has been occupying me in the past few days. Valentines! I thought that since I’ve been working on my photography intensively lately, this was the perfect opportunity to do something extra special. Photos on the computer screen can be great. But when they make the leap from screen to product, with all the special touches, I’m finding that photos can be amazing.

If you’re still looking for something that you can DIY quickly and easily, I found this sweet idea by Twig and Thistle. Isn’t it deliciously brilliant? I like how it’s so simple, but so personal.
